Welcome to GISCA 2016: April 28-30 in Bishkek, Kg

The annual ‘GIS in Central Asia’ Conference' - GISCA 2016 now has opened the Call for Papers and registration. The conference is scheduled for April 28-30 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. In 2016, GISCA is focused on the theme of "Green Spaces: Perspectives and Designs". The deadline for submission of paper abstracts is February 28, 2016 by email to the address: gisca16@aca-giscience.org

'gSmart' Master's Thesis defense at the University of Salzburg


Congratulations! Aigerim Mussayeva successfully defended her Master's thesis entitled 'Online Atlas for Central Asia' supervised by Dr. Manfred Mittlboeck, on January 13, 2016. Prototype 'OAOA Atlas' elements developed for this thesis can be accessed online at www.caatlas.com.


Many congratulations from the gSmart project office, we are very proud since Aigerim is the first gSmart scholar graduating from a full degree program! Her study experience can be sampled from her e-portfolio documenting some highlights of her study period at the University of Salzburg, Interfaculty Department of Geoinformatics (International MSc AGI).

Looking forward to GIS Day '15 with SDI

Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI) now are serving as the foundation for most geospatial documentation, analyses and communication. Congratulations to GEM 2015 MSc Graduates!


The class of 2013-2015 Geoinformatics MSc candidates Adilet Bekturov, Kydyr Nazarkulov, Gulkair Tilek kyzy and Nurbek Dzhumaliev had their final thesis defence on October 21, 2015 at ACA*GIScience KSUCTA.


They presented their research results on their selected thesis topics Urban Planning, Avalanche Cadastre, Forest Management and Demography studies. The State Attesstation Committee has highlighted the importance of Geoinformation technology in Kyrgyzstan as well the high quality of Master theses.

Congratulations to all candidates to successfully presenting and defending their research and thus completing the Master studies with excellent results!

Geoinformatics MSc Program of KSUCTA has been developed and implemented within Tempus "GEM" project in 2011.  

We wish good health and every success to our new GI Masters in their professional and personal lifes!!!

International Seminar on GI Technology in Central Asia is held in Urumqi

The "International Seminar on Geoinformation Technology in Central Asia" was held in September 28-30, 2015 in Urumqi, China. This international event was organized by the Society of Surveying and Mapping of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and the Engineering Research Center of Central Asia Geoinformation Development and Utilization of the National Administration of Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation.

Main topics of the seminar were:

  1. BeiDou satellite navigation and positioning technologies and applications
  2. Technologies and applications on Earth observation satellites
  3. Technologies on emergency surveying and mapping geoinformation security
  4. Smart City and Big Data
  5. Successful experiences in carrying out geomatics projects in Central Asia
  6. Discussion on foreign geomatics policy and staff/faculty training in Central Asian countries
  7. Technology transfer route of Chinese surveying and mapping technologies to Central Asia.

Researchers and professionals from China, Central Asia and other countries have shared successful experiences on different applications of geoinformation, and discussed emerging technologies on surveying, mapping and environmental studies supported by GIS.
