Congratulations to GEM 2015 MSc Graduates!
The class of 2013-2015 Geoinformatics MSc candidates Adilet Bekturov, Kydyr Nazarkulov, Gulkair Tilek kyzy and Nurbek Dzhumaliev had their final thesis defence on October 21, 2015 at ACA*GIScience KSUCTA.

They presented their research results on their selected thesis topics Urban Planning, Avalanche Cadastre, Forest Management and Demography studies. The State Attesstation Committee has highlighted the importance of Geoinformation technology in Kyrgyzstan as well the high quality of Master theses.
Congratulations to all candidates to successfully presenting and defending their research and thus completing the Master studies with excellent results!
Geoinformatics MSc Program of KSUCTA has been developed and implemented within Tempus "GEM" project in 2011.
We wish good health and every success to our new GI Masters in their professional and personal lifes!!!

International Seminar on GI Technology in Central Asia is held in Urumqi
The "International Seminar on Geoinformation Technology in Central Asia" was held in September 28-30, 2015 in Urumqi, China. This international event was organized by the Society of Surveying and Mapping of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and the Engineering Research Center of Central Asia Geoinformation Development and Utilization of the National Administration of Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation.Main topics of the seminar were:
- BeiDou satellite navigation and positioning technologies and applications
- Technologies and applications on Earth observation satellites
- Technologies on emergency surveying and mapping geoinformation security
- Smart City and Big Data
- Successful experiences in carrying out geomatics projects in Central Asia
- Discussion on foreign geomatics policy and staff/faculty training in Central Asian countries
- Technology transfer route of Chinese surveying and mapping technologies to Central Asia.
Researchers and professionals from China, Central Asia and other countries have shared successful experiences on different applications of geoinformation, and discussed emerging technologies on surveying, mapping and environmental studies supported by GIS.

gSmart: Final Call for Scholarships: September 14 - October 31, 2015
Please be aware, there is a small chance to get a scholarship as reserve listed applicant! Applicants who had been put to the reserve list can be promoted to the corresponding main list should any candidate of the main list drop out (following the rules and procedure of the EACEA). Candidates to be promoted will be directly contacted by the gSmart Project office.
- Start of a scholarship not earlier than February, March 2016
- Last date to finish scholarship: July 14, 2017.
- Special Notification: Availability of scholarships Europe to Central Asia, Postdoc and Staff levels!
As interested applicant it will be important to take the opportunity to get familiar with the gSmart application criteria and procedures.

gSmart Joint Coordinators meeting in Salzburg
gSmart Joint-Coordinator Associate Professor Aliya Aktymbayeva from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences, Department of Recreation Geography and Tourism visited the University of Salzburg during the GI_Forum 2015.

The gSmart Joint Coordinators worked on drafting the third progress report to the Erasmus Mundus project in Brussels. and discussed the Final Call for Scholarships of the gSmart project which will be open from September 14 - October 31, 2015.
